Biography
Dr. Roncoli (PhD, State University of New York, Binghamton, 1994) is an economic-environmental anthropologist and has been working in the interface of research and development for over 15 years. Since 1994, Dr. Roncoli has been working at the University of Georgia. Her research interests focus on the human dimensions of climate variability, natural resource management, environmental knowledge, agricultural decision-making, sustainable livelihoods, and gender.
Dr. Roncoli's research centers on the livelihood struggles of rural households who live and work in conditions of economic and ecological marginality. It seeks to understand micro-dynamics of resource management and social vulnerabilities in the context of the larger trends of economic and environmental change. Her interest in climate issues has stemmed from these concerns, as in West Africa rainfall is a key factor in rural livelihoods and food security.
